Now that you have read about candida, its symptoms and negative affects on the body in my previous post, lets try this simple at home test to discover the severity of your candida.
First thing in the morning when you first wake up find a clear glass and fill it ¾ of the way with water. Make sure you have not eaten any food or drank any water before doing this test. Work out a generous amount of saliva in your mouth and then spit it into the glass of water. You may notice that the saliva floats at the top of the water. Try not to move the glass around and leave it aside for about an hour.
If you don’t have candida, your saliva will be floating at the top of the water just as you left it. If you have a mild case of candida, you will see strings of saliva travelling down in the water to the bottom of the glass. In advanced cases, the saliva would have completely sunk to the bottom of the glass.
***Bare in mind that most people fail the test. Only in rare cases, or after you have completely eliminated your candida, will the saliva remain floating on the water. Every time I have tried this test, the saliva has sunk to the bottom of the glass.
However, you can’t completely rely on this home test alone. It is just a good indication to help determine if you may have candida or not but I would definitely recommend visiting a naturopath to discuss this further. Normally they do dry blood tests or vaga test to further analysis the severity of the candida.
How to eliminate candida
If you have taken antibiotics it is important to replenish your healthy bacteria by taking probiotics supplements. As I mentioned in my previous post, candida thrives in an acidic environment therefore it is important to avoid acidic food (refined sugar and carbohydrates) and consume alkalizing foods. These include vegetables (avocado, asparagus, broccoli, carrots etc) and fruits (grapes, peaches, oranges, cherries etc). The number one thing I would recommend is GARLIC! Seriously, garlic is amazing for almost everything, especially killing candida.
